5 Reasons To Visit Shipshewana, Indiana During The Christmas Season
A Magical Christmas In Shipshewana
Shipshewana, Indiana, is home to several magical experiences. With so many wonderful things to choose from, I thought I would suggest the top five things you need to do. When you arrive, you can easily add on the next five things that you wish to do. The Christmas Light Parade and Lighting Ceremony took place on November 11, 2023. The town is all lit up and ready for you to visit!
Shipshewana’s Lights of Joy
Starting November 17th through the end of the year, you can experience one of the top drive through holiday light displays in the country. Pack a car load of friends and family- this will be the best $20 you spend collectively all year! This magical Christmas experience will be something that you talk about 24/7.
Dine at Shawna Rae’s Bakery & Cafe
Shawna Rae’s Bakery & Cafe offers meals that are made with a lot of love! No surprise there, as this is Amish Country. The high quality ingredients make her meals crave worthy.
She has turned me into a macaroni and cheese fan. Anytime she has any type of mac ‘n cheese on the menu- order it. If you are wanting to stock up on amazing bakery goods, arrive early in the day for the best selection.
Make a Doll
Kid’s Kreations, located at 150 N. Harrison Street, offers a magical experience for everyone who enters. If you have always wanted to create a doll with family, this is where you can do it.
On my visit, we made an Amish doll and it was fun. You can purchase quality hand painted collectible dolls, or you can make one of your own. I cannot wait to take my granddaughter back to Shipshewana and make a doll with her.
Attend a Concert
The Blue Gate Performing Art Center offers a variety of concerts throughout the holiday season. Attend one, two, three, or more.
You will be glad you did. The theater is a nice size, it seats 1,500 people. A Gatlin Brother Christmas caught my eye. It’s a big city experience in small town Indiana!
Attend A Christmas Play At Blue Gate Music Hall
Enjoy a buffet dinner at the Blue Gate Restaurant and then attend the musical, The Christmas Candy Caper.
Several performances are scheduled throughout the season. This play is fun and it gives you an opportunity to relax and enjoy the Christmas season.
These are five things to do in Shipshewana, Indiana, this Christmas season. Once you set foot in town, you will be blown away by all that this town of fewer than 1,000 people has to offer.
Thanks for this! It’s so close.. I needed this nudge for a day trip. You find the best places, best fun! 😊
